PHC Chancellor Michael Farris informs students of 'guarantee"
to complete the Barbara Hodel Center.
Patrick Henry College Chancellor Michael Farris has informed the College that a major donor has guaranteed the completion of the new Barbara Hodel Center. The pledge ensures that the 106,000 square-foot, approximately $32 million student life center will be completed by the start of the fall 2009 semester.
“We have received a generous guarantee of full funding for the Barbara Hodel Center,” Farris told students at a packed morning Townhall chapel service, Monday, January 21st. “This constitutes a foundational moment in the life of the College, securing the completion of a wonderful new facility that will become the centerpiece of campus life.”
The guarantee, he noted, comes in the form of a “challenge grant” meant to enlarge the College’s base of existing donors while solidifying the long-term fiscal health of PHC and its annual scholarship program. For the next 12 months, the College will embark on a crucial outreach, focusing energy and resources toward growing the existing base of financial donors from 1,500 to 5,000.
Along with PHC’s faculty, staff, and administration, students at the Townhall chapel were asked to participate in the Finish the Foundation campaign by telling their parents and friends about the College, its mission, and ongoing needs.
“It will require every student, parent, alumnus, faculty, staff and friend of the College to invite others to join them in making a gift to PHC,” Dr. Farris said, “to secure our scholarship program and meet the challenge for our new building.”
