Gabriel Lysne wins intelligence scholarship

The National Military Intelligence Foundation announced PHC senior Gabriel Lysne as a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship Award. Gabriel is a student in PHC's Strategic Intelligence in National Security program (SI).

Dr. Middleton, the Director of the SI program at PHC said, “These awards are made annually to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in intelligence and national security-related programs. It is significant that he is only one of seven recipients who are undergraduate students.”

The goal of the National Military Intelligence Foundation (NMIF) is “to inspire young people to join the intelligence profession as a career of service to the nation, as well as advance public awareness of the roles and contributions intelligence professionals make to society, military intelligence organizations, disciplines, and enhancements in analytical methods, and techniques.”

Lysne said that he found out about the scholarship from Colonel Middleton, who encouraged his SI students to apply. Other PHC students have won the award in the past and it wasn't a challenging application process, so he decided to apply at the beginning of the summer.Lysne Award (2 of 3)

Lysne recalled that the application included three essays, each with a maximum word count of 2,000 words. He needed to explain his interest in intelligence as a career field, what he wants to do in that field, and how the scholarship will help him advance educationally and professionally.

“I have profoundly enjoyed my experience in the Strategic Intelligence program,” Lysne concluded. “I have learned a great deal about not only intelligence but also personal character from both the professors and fellow classmates, among whom I am blessed to have many strong friends. I would not trade that experience for any other and I cannot recommend it more highly to anyone considering it for themselves."
