The Sentinels continue a long-lasting tradition
On Saturday, August 22, the Sentinels soccer teams competed in the 3rd annual Alumni Games. At the end of each preseason, the PHC Alumni are invited back to compete against the current Sentinel players as a way to stay connected to the program and see how their past contributions have helped shape and develop the current athletic programs. The women took the field first for a 1 p.m kickoff against the alumni team. Freshman Ashley Hurst opened the scoring in the first half by burying a left-footed shot to tally her first (unofficial) collegiate goal and giving the Sentinels a driving force for the rest of the game. The alumni answered midway through the second half with Emily Cook outpacing the Sentinel back line, setting herself up for a successful 1v1 with goalkeeper Olivia Entzminger. The conclusion of the game saw the Sentinels and Alumni tied 1-1.
The men faced off at 3 p.m. for an extremely close 0-0 game that ended in a penalty kick shootout in which the current Sentinels men beat the Alumni. Sentinel goalkeeper Noah Jackson came up with massive saves in the PK shootout, culminating in the final Alumni shot from Silas Landsverk being saved and solidifying the Sentinels’ victory.
Thank you to all PHC alumni who have been a part of the past Sentinel programs and the groundwork that YOU have laid to bring the Sentinel programs to where they are now. Next year’s Alumni Games will be on August 21, 2027; mark your calendars!
