Fun fact: This one time, I co-moderated the mayoral debate for Purcellville.
RA goals: I'm ready to see how God continues to show Himself in the lives of men on campus. Every year, He blesses me through kind rebukes, timeless laughs, and nights worth staying up late for. Can't wait to spend one more year with these men.
Wing Chapel: Wing Chapel is the best part of the week. We'll walk through the book of Jude and John's letters, trying to make sense of manliness.
Wing Theme: Ranch!
Fun fact: I love to fence and play chess.
RA goals: I can't wait to help the men of the wing grow in their mutual appreciation of one another's gifts. I love seeing how each person is equipped with different strengths, all to the glory of God!
Wing Chapel: I hope to explore Christian liberty and obedience, using James, Matthew, and Proverbs. We'll discuss why God still tells us what to do and how we as men should love and obey the voice of Christ.
Wing Theme: I plan to continue my wing's three-year tradition of the Heroes of the Faith. This theme has helped me recognize the "great cloud of witnesses" who have gone before us and deserve our emulation.
Fun fact: I'm 6-4, and I don't play basketball. I know, shocking.
RA goals: What I'm most looking forward to this year is building on my RA experience from last year by leaning into what went well and learning from the things I could have done better.
Wing Chapel: I'm going to be going through the Gospel of John with my wing this coming year.
Wing Theme: I haven't figured that out yet :)
Fun Fact: I'm Asian.
RA goals: Seeking the Lord through friendship.
Wing Chapel: A lot of prayer, reading through Thoughts for Young Men, and anything else that comes to mind.
Wing Theme: Madagascar!
Fun Fact: I have two fun facts. Last summer I smashed out my driver's side mirror because I saw a road cone and I wanted to know what it would be like if I hit it. So I drove over it and suffered the consequences. The second fun fact is that I have 11 siblings, and every single one of us has a biblical name.
RA goals: I'm looking forward to being back with the community of guys that I built over the last two years and especially the opportunity to serve them as their RA.
Wing Chapel: My wing will be focused on several sections of Isaiah as we consider what it means to be men of our word.
Wing Theme: Our wing theme is heroes of Western civilization to honor Dr. Favelo and the many men throughout history who provided a culture and world where we can live and be free.
Fun Fact: I was baptized in a ship’s bell.
RA goals: I could not be more excited for my wing next year! In particular, I look forward to the camaraderie we'll build and memories we'll create in my last year of school. Like Hebrews 10 says, "Let us consider how to stir one another up to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as the Day of Judgement approaches."
Wing Chapel: How can Christians live reliant on the grace of God? Too often we rely on our own strength to live righteously. In Wing Chapel, we will discuss the central role of God's grace and mercy in our everyday lives. Sola Gratia!
Wing Theme: We're the Air Wing. I have been told PHC's "wings" are a term borrowed from the Air Force, so this is an appropriate theme. (Upperclassmen: has NOTHING to do with the Top Gun Wing!!)
Being an RA: Helping young men to be better men of God.
Wing Chapel: I will do my wing chapels first semester on forgiveness and repentance. The second semester I will go over the qualifications for eldership as the measure of godly manhood.
Wing Theme: I am continuing my previous RA's wing theme: DAWG POUND. It is incredibly fun and unifying.
Fun fact: I can't whistle to save my life, but I can run triathlons... slowly. Very slowly.
RA goals: I'm looking forward to wing chapels with the bros, and growing in spiritual leadership alongside the men in the wing.
Wing Chapel: TBD... Just kidding. We will primarily study Ryle's classic, Thoughts for Young Men, because we are young men and I like classics.
Wing Theme: I'm throwing around a few, but I'm strongly considering "GW Hall" in honor of George Washington. It would be themed around great men who led honorably and practiced chivalry.
Fun fact: I toured Europe with the PHC chorale this past May!
RA goals: Giving the freshmen in my wing a PHC experience as great as mine :)
Wing Chapel: Thinking through Scripture applications in day-to-day life as a student and at PHC.
Wing Theme: Lord of the Rings!
Fun fact: I've run two marathons.
RA goals: I'm most looking forward to getting to know the new guys in my wing and learning more from the old-timers.
Wing Chapel: I'm planning on working through classic works of Christian literature, especially from the Puritans. My vision for Wing Chapel is a time of spiritual encouragement and focus for the men in my wing.
Wing Theme: Not sure yet, but it's going to be good!
Fun fact: My only day of public school was in Denmark.
Being an RA: I am looking forward to deepening relationships I started last year.
Wing Chapel: I am planning on going through John, examining the life of Jesus.
Wing Theme: The Knights of the Rectangular Hall!
Fun fact: I laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
RA goals: I am most looking forward to staying up way past reasonable hours to have deep conversations with other men I greatly respect.
Wing Chapel: Hebrews 10:24 says to "consider how to stir up one another to love and good works." While chapels and classes are for doctrine, wing chapels are for practice. I envision wing chapels as very active, supporting fellow brothers in our daily battles against sin.
Wing Theme: It will be Irish!
Fun fact: I do not travel, with few exceptions. My family has moved once since I was born ... to a different house in the same county. With the exception of a vacation that involved flights from Chicago to Alaska/British Columbia and back, I have never been north of my home state of Pennsylvania. And I've only been as far west as Indiana one other time. (North Carolina is my southern limit.) Fun fact #2: My hair will not be as long as it is in that picture ... Dean Hodge would never allow it.
RA goals: I am most looking forward to conversations with my wing-lings, whatever shape that takes. I hope to help them when they need it (and for them to help me when I need it!) and simply to be good friends.
Wing Chapel: My vision for wing chapel is not definitely decided, but most likely we will go through J.C. Ryle's Thoughts for Young Men. In any case, wing chapel will involve prayer and serious, communal conversations about the truths of God's Word (and hopefully a little bit of fun, sometimes).
Wing Theme: My main (in fact, my only) wing theme idea so far involves music: each person in the wing gets assigned a famous composer, musician, band, artist, etc. My crazy pianist roommate could be Rachmaninoff. As RA, I'll probably assign myself something superb, like the Eagles. And there's one person I can think of who probably deserves Taylor Swift...
Being an RA: I'm most looking forward to getting to spend time with the guys through wing chapel and various wing events. I've got a super cool wing who are a blast to hang out with and can't wait to see what we get to do this year!
Wing Chapel: For wing Chapel I would love to dive deep into Biblical masculinity and explore its implications for the young men of today. Hopefully this will be accomplished through case studies on various Biblical figures but also men of the Church including preachers, Church fathers, and missionaries. Finally, I hope to also occasionally be able to just spend wing chapel bonding as a wing amongst ourselves but also with our brother and sister wings.
Wing Theme: For wing theme, I think we will be doing a hall of fame theme highlighting famous athletes or other men that we look up to. We have a lot of athletes in my wing and I think they will buy into the sports theme and be excited about the chance to push ourselves to be better in every area of our lives.
