QUIZ: Are You a U.S. History Wiz?

Written by Madeleine Burr | 8/26/26, 5:54 PM

How well do you really know U.S. History? Do you have a special knack for remembering dates and places?

Patrick Henry College's emphasis on civics and Western history stands apart from top universities.

According to the research by our friends at the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), “well-designed core academic requirements help to cultivate a sense of shared civic vision—by requiring all graduates to gain a basic understanding of the country’s Founding principles, history, and political institutions. Today, however, only 18% of colleges and universities require a foundational survey course in U.S. government or history. And the danger to our democratic republic is real.”

The subject areas of U.S. Government and History are not the only casualties. The form of education that our founding fathers received is dying. This is why PHC's emphasis on History stands apart from other universities.  Patrick Henry College is dedicated to teaching all aspects of American history—the good, the evil, and everything in between. Students are taught to view history from a thoughtful Christian perspective as they learn to balance grace and truth.

Patrick Henry College exists to glorify God by challenging the status quo in higher education, lifting high both faith and reason within a rigorous academic environment; thereby preserving for posterity the ideals behind the "noble experiment in ordered liberty" that is the foundation of America.
