Good Friday Playlist

Written by Grace Richardson | Mar 30, 2018 7:13:08 PM

A collection of songs recent and old that contemplate the Passion, Christ's sacrifice at Calvary, and the hope we have through it. Click on each song title to listen.

1. "Gethsemane" - Keith & Kristen Getty

A haunting reflection on Jesus's agony in the garden at Gethsemane the night before His death.

2. "Why" - Nichole Nordeman

A moving ballade about a little girl who follows Jesus through the streets of Jerusalem to his crucifixion.

3. "On my Cross" - FFH

A throwback to 2001 from the band FFH (Far From Home), this song contemplates how Jesus bore our sins, our thorns, and our cross.

4. "Last Words (Tenebrae)" - Andrew Peterson

The song is composed solely of the words Jesus spoke from the cross in a poignant, overlapping melody.

5. "Death, Be Not Proud" - Audrey Assad

This hopeful song focuses on the fact that Death itself will one day die.

6. "Good Friday" - Josh Garrels

Josh Garrels brings his distinctive voice and style to a contemplative journey through the thoughts of the Passion.

7. "Night Has Passed / Morning Has Broken" - The Brilliance

A song of hope that remembers what comes after the cross, ending with the words "...in the gift of this day."

8. "Even When He Is Silent" - Kim André Arnesen

Though not specifically a Good Friday song, this a cappella chorale song reflects hope in the face of what seemed to be God's greatest silence.

9. "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?" - ReThink Worship

A minor-key, reflective version of this old American spiritual.

10. "Hallelujah, What a Savior" - Sovereign Grace

The classic hymn covering our Savior's sorrows and telling the whole story, together with the return of our "coming King."

11. "Old Rugged Cross" - Chris Rice

No Good Friday compilation is fully complete without this classic hymn. This simple cover by Chris Rice provides a slight twist to the normal renditions.
