It was a tale of two quarters as the PHC women traveled to Annandale to take on the NOVA Nighthawks. In the second and fourth quarters, the Sentinels kept it close, only being outscored by eight points. Unfortunately, the other two quarters got away from them as poor shooting and a few too many turnovers hurt their performance. In the end, NOVA had a 95-47 victory. The PHC women were coming off an emotional win on Saturday versus rival Appalachian Bible at home, but in this game, they came out flat, fell behind by 20 points, and could not recover. There were some bright spots as freshman Liana DeVore tallied 29 points and freshman MK Bebb had her best game with four points and seven rebounds along with a heavy dose of hustle. “That was a great effort by MK, who has improved so much as the season has gone on,” said Coach Weitz. Additionally, team captain Hannah Kim remarked that the score does not reflect their overall development and that they are still improving in various parts of the game such as rebounding and team cohesion.
Last year the Lady Sentinels did not compete nearly as well against this team, so the improvement of the basketball program here at Patrick Henry College is visible. The next game will be a home game on Saturday at 5 pm versus a very talented Frederick CC team.
