Dr. Roger Scruton
Dr. Roger Scruton will be coming to Patrick Henry College on Monday, April 21st at 6:00pm to give a lecture on "Why Beauty Matters." He is the author of numerous books – including some read in PHC classes – and is a well-known philosopher. The Alexis de Tocqueville Society is hosting the event.
Roger Scruton holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Cambridge University and specializes in aesthetics. He has written over thirty books focusing on beauty, conservatism, environmentalism, and religion. These include Beauty, Art and Imagination, England and Elegy, The Meaning of Conservatism, and The Aesthetics of Music. In 2009 he published a documentary entitled "Why Beauty Matters." He has held positions at the American Enterprise Institute and on the faculty at St. Andrews, Oxford, and Buckingham University.
