Preparations are underway at Patrick Henry College for our eighth season of summer Teen Leadership Camps! In 2001, Patrick Henry welcomed high school students from across the country to four one-week camps, and since this inaugural year, Teen Leadership Camps has developed into a thriving program with over 1500 camp alumni. The Teen Camps blend of challenging classroom sessions with more traditional camp activities, all presented from a distinctly Christian worldview, defines a program that offers a unique contribution to the mission of Patrick Henry College.
This year’s schedule includes nine separate camps during June and July. Some returning camps are perennial favorites, like Strategic Intelligence and Debate, and others, Drama and Music, are new 2008 offerings. Drama Camp will allow campers to act and learn the art of stage production, while Music Camp emphasizes vocal development under the auspices of Dr. McCollum, Director of Music at PHC. Moot Court features personal instruction by PHC Chancellor Michael Farris on issues of national security and the art of presenting legal arguments. College Prep. Camp equips high school students with much needed skills for college life. From writing workshops and SAT prep to sessions on college life and study skills, the camp provides campers a chance to prepare themselves to be better witnesses for Christ in college and beyond. The Roots of Leadership camp provides essential lectures on the foundation of our country and gives young people the opportunity to practice true, biblical leadership. By far the most popular Teen Camp offering, two separate weeks of Strategic Intelligence will expose campers to all facets of the intelligence community and test their espionage abilities in covert mission operations.
Teen Leadership Camps provide an exciting context for students to explore an academic discipline and learn to apply a biblical worldview to the issues of today. Classroom sessions are taught by Patrick Henry faculty and other field experts, and field trips to nearby historical sites and centers of American government enhance the camps’ unique experience. Campers can also expect to gain a taste of PHC life as they live in the College residence halls, attend chapel, and interact with current PHC students serving as camp staff.
Teen Leadership Camps are open to students who will be 14-18 years old when camp begins. Camp dates, costs, and other information are available on the teen camp website: www.phc.edu/teencamps. Online registration is strongly encouraged, and a $50 early registration discount is available online through April 15. For further information, please contact Tim Snyder, Executive Director for Teen Leadership Camps 2008, at 540.338.8810 or teencamps@phc.edu.
