Patrick Henry College is at the center of many political, cultural, and natural attractions. Numerous activities are just an hour or less away. Students take study trips to the Library of Congress, hike the Appalachian Trail, fish in the Shenandoah River, play frisbee on Washington's National Mall or enjoy time with friends at the local coffee shop. Located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Patrick Henry also offers students some spectacular rock climbing opportunities.
Just fifty minutes away, Washington D.C. offers some of the best historical and cultural venues available in the country. Students enjoy strolls through the National Gallery of Art, plays at Ford's Theatre, concerts at the Kennedy Center, and days lost in the massive Smithsonian Museums. Being near the capital of the free world doesn't just allow for great internship opportunities, it allows for a great experience of the city itself. The White House, the Capitol, the countless monuments and museums, the beautiful scenery (especially the springtime cherry blossoms), and the rich history that surrounds the federal capital make Washington a place you'll remember for the rest of your life.
For an adventurous weekend road-trip, many PHC students enjoy traveling to New York, Philadelphia, or Virginia Beach - all just a few hours away. A trip to Baltimore's Camden Yards is a popular day trip for those who want to watch the Orioles play the best teams in professional baseball. Grabbing dinner afterwards at the scenic Inner Harbor makes for a well-rounded, fun day with friends.
There is no lack of historical places to visit around Patrick Henry College. Harper's Ferry, Antietam, Annapolis, Bull Run, Mount Vernon, and Gettysburg, to name a few, are all within an hour and a half of the College. Trips to Jefferson's Monticello and University of Virginia allow students additional interesting excursions. The beautiful scenery that surrounds the area still echoes the not too distant past. Whether it is battlegrounds, monuments, or living history that you're looking for, it can be found close by.
Living in PHC's hometown of Purcellville, Virginia provides a sense of quaint country living without sacrificing an amazing world of opportunity.
