The Patrick Henry College Student Government is the official representative of the student body. It exists to provide students with the opportunity to work with each other and college administration to improve school programs and policies.
The Student Government consists of executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The Executive Board is made up of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Sergeant at Arms. The twenty-five member Senate is elected annually and has several standing committees. Most of these committees function similarly to actual committees in the United States Congress.
In previous years, Student Government has dealt with an array of issues, including the Honor Code, Dress Code, and curfew. It has also worked to improve student life by coordinating community service opportunities through the Community Involvement Commission, and by granting official status to student organizations. The current school year has presented student representatives with many important issues, including assisting the administration in its successful TRACS accreditation bid. Student Senate has recently been recognized as an official policy-forming body under the school’s new governmental reorganization.
The Student Body President is the representative of the student body and is responsible for delivering legislation passed by the Student Senate. The Student Body Vice President presides over the Senate and organizes Senate meetings. Other members of the executive cabinet aid and work along side the President and Vice President to ensure smooth senate operations. The executives also play a roll in conflict resolution should the situation require it.
