Patrick Henry College's men's soccer program was founded in the fall of 2001. During the fall 2001 season the team scrimmaged several area high school varsity and travel teams. The team worked together to gain skill and experience during this time. The team closed the season with the first annual game against PHC faculty and staff.
In the spring of 2002 the men's team participated in an invitational tournament sponsored by Washington Bible College in Lanham, MD. Shortly after the tournament the first spring training began under the leadership of John Thornton who also serves as the college's men's head resident and assistant to the Dean of Student Life. During the months of April and May the team participated in morning work outs every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and practiced every Tuesday, Thursday.
Fall 2002 marked several changes for the men's team. John Thornton became the team's head coach and the team competed throughout the fall season with a full intercollegiate schedule. Making the season memorable, the men won their first game in intercollegiate competition with Jesse Brown scoring Patrick Henry College's first hat trick in the win. Anchoring the team throughout the season, Stephen Shipp, co-captain and center mid-fielder was named the season's MVP.
PHC men competed in the Washington Bible College Indoor Tournament in the spring of 2003. Team members were encouraged by their own growth and the strong contribution of several of the new freshman players.
Both the men's and women's teams have expanded schedules for the upcoming fall soccer season.
