Patrick Henry College stepped into the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) in 2008-09 for the first time, under the leadership of Dr. Frank Guliuzza. Where moot court practices appellate law, mock trial stages the initial trial that establishes the record.

To be competitive in mock trial, individuals have to play the roles of their characters, whether witness, district attorney, or defense counsel, and often use accents and drama to render the appropriate effect. This type of competition is much more theatrical than most of PHC’s other public speaking arenas.
