Forensics

"Patrick Henry College may not have a football team, but we have one of the best debate teams in the country."     ~ Mike Farris, PHC Chancellor

In this day and age, when people are so often attracted to the most persuasive and articulate communicators, no matter how unsound their ideas, it is essential for individuals who aspire to impact our culture for Christ to possess the ability to communicate the truth effectively in a clear and appealing manner.

One of Patrick Henry College's most popular extra-curricular activities, PHC's forensics program participates in three leagues: NPDA (Parliamentary Debate), NFA (Individual Policy), and ACMA (Moot Court).  PHC's debaters have been highly successful on each circuit, competing against much larger schools, including Ohio State University, University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, Jersey State, Bob Jones University, Regent University, CSU Long Beach, and New York University, among others.

National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA)

Patrick Henry College's Parliamentary Debate program is one its most rewarding activities. Students have competed in tournaments from California to Pennsylvania and have gained national attention by defeating traditional debate powers such as Cedarville and Notre Dame. Currently ranked #37 out of 280 schools, PHC's parli debaters maintain a high level of knowledge in many areas of study, since debate topics range from Greek philosophy to the effects of the Federal Reserve.

National Forensics Association (NFA)

Patrick Henry College's newest debate team participates in the National Forensic Assocation, an individual policy, Lincoln-Douglas-style debate league comprised of over 100 colleges and universities.  Although young, PHC's NFA squad has already established a firm presence, "breaking" and claiming top-ten speaker awards and team rankings at every tournament.  PHC is excited to continue supporting the success of its students in this new arena.

American Collegiate Moot Court Assocation (AMCA)

Moot Court is an academic exercise originally modeled after the process used by attorneys to prepare for the intensity of the courtroom before significant cases. Coached by Dr. Mike Farris, Patrick Henry College's team has long enjoyed elite status among undergraduate universities and colleges. At the 2008 ACMA National Tournament, PHC teams swept second, third and fourth place, claiming six of the top eight team awards.  More...
