Catalog Description
DL Latin III is a continuation of the first and second courses in the sequence. The course is structured somewhat differently, however. Instead of being a correspondence based offering, Latin III is able to utilize electronic resources better as it is not dependent on the Wheelock Workbook.
The text for the course is Wheelock's Latin Reader, 2nd Edition. The featured authors are Ovid, Livy and Cicero in ascending order of difficulty. Additionally, students will learn Latin through Latin composition using Bennett’s New Latin Composition. Students will turn in for evaluation fifteen lessons which consist of translations of primary text and the composition of Latin sentences. There will also be ancillary grammatical and metrical exercises based on the Latin texts throughout the course. The course will give a solid grounding in reading basic Latin texts of standard Latin authors.
DL Latin II or its equivalent is a prerequisite for the course. Please email ssmcroberts@phc.edu if you have any questions.
