Mock Trial Description

July 17-30

The purpose of this camp is to teach students how to compete successfully in interscholastic and/or intercollegiate mock trial.  You will learn how to prepare an opening statement, how to put together a direct and cross examination, and how to craft a closing argument.  You will also be introduced to the Federal Rules of Evidence.

Mock trial is challenging and fun.  Moreover, it is one of the best support activities for students interested in going to law or graduate school.

The course will operate under the direction of Dr. Frank Guliuzza.  Dr. Guliuzza is the Dean of Academic Affairs at Patrick Henry College.  He has coached 18 mock trial teams into national competition, with several earning prestigious awards.  More than 50 of his students have won All-Regional Awards, and he has coached more than 20 All-Americans.  Additionally, along with Dr. Michael Farris, he is the co-coach of PHC’s moot court team -- the 2009, 2010, and 2011 ACMA National Champions.  Dr. Guliuzza is on the Executive Board of the American Mock Trial Association, is President of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association, and is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Pre-Law Advisors’ National Council.  Students need not have previous experience in interscholastic mock trial to participate in this camp.
