Congress
June 19-25
The vast majority of Americans disapprove of Congress, but respect and approve of their Congressman.
Do you wonder why that is? Do you think you could do better? If so, then Congress Camp is for you. For the first time ever, Patrick Henry College is bringing you the incredible opportunity to delve into the inner workings of Congress. Guided by the extensive political expertise of PHC’s Dr. Michael Haynes, Professor of American Politics and Policy, campers will take on the challenges experienced in the world’s premiere legislative body. For the week, campers will assume the role of a current representative and try to overcome partisan sentiment without compromising the core values of their district. Through simulated caucuses, committee meetings, and floor sessions, they will select their party leadership, craft legislation, and engage in competitive deliberation. Rounding out the week’s events, campers will take a day long trip to the Capitol that will include taking a guided tour, meeting with a Congressman, and watching Congress in action on the floor of the House of Representatives.
