Financial Aid

08-09 Financial Aid Offerings

At Patrick Henry College, the goal of our financial aid program is simple. Working in concert with students and families, we want to structure financial partnerships that will give every qualified student with a heart for reshaping our culture the opportunity to join us.

Whether you're interested in finding out more about merit-based or need-based aid, we can help you to determine your eligibility and guide you through the application process. And if our many financial aid offerings don't quite meet your needs, we can even give you advice on how to find other private scholarship funds.

Because we believe that the preservation of our financial independence is a critical component of our mission, U.S. Department of Education funding is not available to PHC students and their families. But we're confident that our wide range of financial aid options brings one of the nation's finest classical, Christian liberal arts educations within the reach of families from all financial backgrounds.

Fall 2008 Application Deadline

  • Regular Application and Financial Aid Deadline: June 15, 2008
  • Journalism Scholarship Deadline: April 1, 2008 (more info)

To be eligible for all of the scholarships offered from Patrick Henry, students must submit all Admissions Application materials and a completed Financial Aid application.

The PROFILE® does not have to be submitted by the Priority Deadline. It is recommended that 2007 taxes be completed before submitting the PROFILE.® However, the deadline for submitting the PROFILE® is June 15, 2008.

Financial Aid Eligibility

To be eligible for financial aid, a student must be admitted to the College, a full-time student, and have completed all application materials. As a condition of receiving financial aid, students agree that the College may publicize the individual successes achieved by students to promote the College to potential students and donors. PHC would refrain from such promotion if it would jeopardize in any way a student's career opportunities, such as those in national security or related fields. Merit-based and need-based awards follow published financial aid offerings. Financial aid is not available for distance learning courses.  Financial aid is awarded in the form of merit-based scholarships and need-based grants.

Financial Aid Application
Once you've determined that you are eligible to be considered for financial aid from Patrick Henry College, you will need to fill out a simple financial aid application and send it to the Financial Aid Office. This form is mailed to students upon receipt of their Admissions Application. Click here to download a Financial Aid Application (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).  Financial aid awards are made after students have been accepted for admission to the College.

Financial Aid Principles
As a matter of institutional conviction, Patrick Henry College operates on the basis of two guiding financial principles: first, the College is committed to operating without debt, adding new facilities and programs only as funds are raised; second, the College is governed by its Board of Trustees according to its Fundamental Statements and will not accept  any funding, private or governmental, which includes terms which supersede the Board’s authority or conflict with these Fundamental Statements.

Merit-Based Scholarships and Awards
Merit-based scholarships are determined by performance indicators including test scores, student writing, and personal interviews. Continued eligibility requires a minimum cumulative grade point average and enrollment in a full-time class load of at least 12 hours for both fall and spring semesters. Merit awards are awarded to incoming students and are renewed annually if a student remains eligible and resources permit.

Need-Based Financial Aid
If you are seeking need-based financial aid, you will need to complete the College Board CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE®. The code number assigned to Patrick Henry College by College Board is 2804.  The online service can be found at http://profileonline.collegeboard.com/ and their phone number is 305-829-9793 (selecting "0" in the automated menu system will connect you with a College Board representative).  The Financial Aid Office will occasionally request additional information from the student before making an award.

Need-based aid decisions will be made based on the PROFILE® Financial Need Analysis Report and the College's need-based formula. Continued eligibility for financial aid requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and enrollment with a full-time class load of at least 12 hours for both fall and spring terms. All need-based aid awards will be evaluated annually and must be applied for annually using the PROFILE® Report to calculate expected family contribution.

The PROFILE® deadline is June 15, 2008. Students that do not submit the PROFILE® by this date will not be eligible for need-based aid.

Private Sources of Financial Aid
All students are expected to seek private sources of financial aid.  Homeschool support groups, a parent's place of employment, private boards and foundations, and private individuals are potential private sources of financial aid. With the permission of the student and parents, Patrick Henry College will release application and financial aid information to these private organizations.
