More than 50 young basketball players from around Loudoun County have been honing their skills, competing, and having fun at the Barbara Hodel Center this week, under the direction of PHC men’s assistant basketball coach Kevin Weeren. A second week of camp for kids in age groups ranging from rising kindergarten through seventh-grade starts next week, Monday, July 25 -- 29, and spots are still open. The camp focuses on team play, fundamentals, and individual and team offense, with league games, drill stations, and daily competitions. Camp director Kevin Weeren has 20 years of camp experience and 10 years of experience as a varsity coach in Fairfax and Loudoun County. He was the 2006 Virginia State AAA Coach of the Year, the 2002 Northern Region Coach of the Year, and the 2002 and 2006 Liberty District Coach of the Year.
"We're teaching skills and fundamentals," said Weeren, "but the main thing is that the kids are having a great time and learning to love the game of basketball." For more information about next week's camp, contact Weeren at firstname.lastname@example.org, or at 703-509-3598. The cost of $105 per session.
