Watching her daughter, Elizabeth, dance “joyfully, boldly and skillfully” in the final student performance of Ballet Magnificat!’s Summer Dance Intensive program, homeschool mother Lisa Pinkham writes in the Loudoun Times online that she “heard God’s call.”
“People need to see that this is what dance can be about,” she recalls thinking. “I will do my part, Lord, to help people experience this. I will remember.”
She started organizing as soon as she returned home, locating volunteers and funding. Most importantly, she found the venue—Patrick Henry College and its Barbara Hodel Student Life Center gym. Now the performance lies less than a week out, arranged for Thursday evening, November 18, at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online or by cash or check from the PHC Bookstore ($10 for PHC faculty/staff/students/alumni). Ballet Magnificat!’s Omega Company will perform “Before His Throne… Boldly,” an original ballet based on Hebrews 4:16—“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
According to Erin Beaver, tour director for Omega Company, “Before His Throne… Boldly is a very special ballet, because it reveals the heart of the ministry. It is a collection of worship songs that proclaim who Christ is, what He has done for us and our response to Him. The dancers deeply press into the Lord for each performance of Before His Throne… Boldly with the desire that it would minister in fresh ways to the audience.”
Ballet Magnificat! was founded in 1986. Magnificat is Latin for “to magnify Him.” It’s derived from “Mary’s Song” of praise in the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke, when Mary first learned she was to be the mother of the Messiah. Ballet Magnificat! is an arts organization dedicated to presenting the good news of Jesus Christ to the whole world. Their professional touring companies perform nationally and internationally, ministering to audiences in the United States as well as Canada, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Greece, Singapore, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico.
The College community anticipates an evening of unparalleled excellence, enjoying what one of the endorsements on the Ballet Magnificat! website calls “truly one of the most outstanding tributes to our Lord Jesus Christ that I’ve ever seen.”
