Organized by seasoned Patrick Henry College debater Tim Snyder, the Second Annual PHC Communicator Classic is now accepting registrations for NPDA (Parli) and NFA debate competition this January 21-23. Last year, its inaugural run, the Communicator Classic welcomed 40 total competitors. This year, PHC Director of Debate Dr. Jim Tallmon reports that the College expects registrants from Regent, Hillsdale, and Grove City, among others.
The Communicator Classic serves as a national qualifying tournament for the NPDA and NFA debate leagues, but it also fills a special purpose. Since it employs volunteer judges from the local community, who do not possess special knowledge of debate, the tournament requires competitors to drop debate jargon and focus on the skills of wit and reasoned discourse.
“The Communicator Classic has a tri-fold purpose,” outlines Dr. Tallmon. “It is an opportunity to showcase the school; it improves our overall abilities and competitive edge; and it is a means of service and outreach.”

“We can’t do this tournament without the support of our judges. We’d sure like to have your involvement and support,” Dr. Tallmon says.
